Club Policies ALL POLICIES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE. General 1. The club is open 5:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. Monday - Friday and 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Summer weekend, (Saturday/Sunday), hours are 7:00a.m. - 7:00p.m. The pool and exercise areas close 1/2 hour earlier. The club is closed Thanksgiving and Christmas. 2. We require a photo ID when processing a membership and we ask all members to fill out a health questionnaire. 3. No smoking, no alcoholic beverages, and no obscenities are allowed on the premises. Any disruptive behavior, physical or verbal, will be grounds for terminating membership. Note: If at any time a staff person feels that a member's personal safety is at risk or that he/she is putting other members at risk due to the influence of alcohol or drugs, we will notify the authorities. 4. Please refrain from wearing colognes or other strong fragrances in the club. 5. Snacks are available in the lounge by the reception desk. Please enjoy your refreshments there. During the summer, you are welcome to use the picnic tables on the south lawn. 6. Please do not bring glass bottles to the club. 7. Upon arrival, check in at the front desk. If you do not have your ID, you will need to pay to have another one made. In the meantime, you can use another photo ID. We cannot be responsible for any ID, other than the club ID, which you leave at the desk. 8. YOUTH, 12 years of age and younger, may be added to a parent's (or legal guardian's) membership. 9. YOUTH, 12 years of age or younger, must use the club with an adult (over age 18 or over 16 if a sibling) who assumes responsibility for him or her. YOUTH UNDER 13 are accompanied by an adult at all times in all areas of the club and are expected to respect club rules. 10. TEENS AGES 13-15: The option to use the club without an accompanying adult is a privilege extended to those who respect club rules. Approval by a personal trainer is required before using the Cybex and Nautilus weight room. No one under age 16 is allowed in the free weight room unless under the direct supervision of a personal trainer. Lifeguard approval is required in order to be in the pool room during lifeguard hours, but without a parent. 11. In order to maintain a pleasant workout environment for everyone, we ask that all members take daily showers and wear clean exercise clothing. If concerns along this line are brought to the attention of management, the member will be sent a policy reminder. 12. Proper exercise attire and CLEAN ATHLETIC FOOTWEAR is required in all exercise areas including courts. Shirts, shorts or pants and safe non-marking shoes must be worn at all times. The only exceptions made for required footwear are for yoga and pilates classes. Bathing suits are not appropriate as exercise attire outside of the poolroom. 13. Playing in the parking lot (biking, skate boarding, rollerblading, catch or any other such activity) is strictly prohibited. The use of the parking lot is only for parking motor vehicles. Go to Top of Policies Pool 1. No running, wrestling, or horseplay in or around the pool. No diving. No backflips. 2. Please take a soapy shower before using the pool or jacuzzi. Sun tan lotion (and other oils) must be completely washed off before entering the pool or jacuzzi. 3. People with infections or severe cuts will not be allowed in the pool. 4. The buddy system will be enforced when no lifeguard is on duty. No fewer than two adult swimmers may swim and no non-swimmers are allowed in the pool unless a lifeguard is on duty. 5. Goggles and swim caps are recommended. 6. FOR ADULTS ONLY: Snorkels and non-glass masks are allowed. Fins (plastic or silicone and not BLACK rubber) are allowed with certain restrictions. Swimmers with fins should swim alone. Therefore, if a swimmer is already in a lane and you choose to join that lane, you may not (for safety reasons) use fins and you may not do the butterfly stroke. For safety reasons, children are not allowed to use masks or snorkels. 7. Please do not hang on the lane markers. 8. NO ONE UNDER 16 is allowed to swim or be in the pool room without a guard on duty. 9. Lifeguard hours are weekdays 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and weekends 12:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Summer lifeguard hours are extended, 12:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. every day. 10. CHILDREN UNDER 13 must be ACCOMPANIED IN THE POOL ROOM at all times by a parent, guardian, or adult member over age 18 or sibling over 16) who is responsible for him or her. NON-SWIMMERS must be closely attended by a parent or parent-surrogate at all times(one adult per non-swimmer). If a child is unable to swim the length of the pool, he/she is considered a non-swimmer and the parent must be in the pool with the child. 11. TEENS 13-15 if given approval by the lifeguard on duty (see rule 8 above), may swim without an accompanying adult. 12. DIAPERS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE POOL. Bathing suits are required by all. 13. The swimming pool will be kept at approximately 80 degrees year around. 14. No articles of glass are allowed in the pool room, locker rooms, or anywhere in the club. NO FOOD is allowed in the pool room. 15. ALL SWIMMERS SHOULD CHANGE in the LOCKER ROOMS. The first floor bathroom may be used for young children if a mother is bringing her son or a father is bringing his daughter. Clothes should not be brought into the pool room. Shoes are not allowed in the pool room. Cut-off shorts are not allowed in the pool. 16. WATER GUNS and POINTED DIVE STICKS are not allowed in the pool. 17. Large flotation items are not allowed in the pool. 18. The pool room must be evacuated during electrical storms. 19. We expect two swimmers to share a lane. Go to Top of Policies Aqua-Aerobics 1. Participants must be at least age 13 or age 16 if the class is held during non-lifeguard hours. If there are at least 13 participants, the instructor may take the adjoining lap lane only after notifying any lap swimmer. Maximum class size is 25. At no time may class members use the remaining two lap lanes which must remain available to lap swimmers at all times. Go to Top of Policies Lap Swimming Policies 1. All lap swimmers start from the shallow end. 2. Two (2) swimmers may share one lane. If a swimmer is alone, please let him/her know you are coming. 3. Non-lap swimming has priority over lap swimming on the free side of the pool. The free side of the pool is created when a staff member removes a lane marker. 4. Lap lanes are for lap swimming and water walking, although it is appreciated if water walkers use the free side of the pool if possible. Aqua classes will take the middle lane of the pool if class size necessitates this. 5. No hyperventilating. Private Swim Instruction Private swim instruction is offered by Hampshire Athletic Club staff only. Go to Top of Policies Jacuzzi and Saunas 1. NO ONE UNDER 16 is allowed in the jacuzzi. 2. For medical reasons, pregnant women should not use the whirlpool or sauna. 3. Individuals with the following conditions should not use the whirlpool or sauna: high blood pressure, heart problems, or diabetes. 4. Please shower with soap before using the jacuzzi or sauna. 5. Town fire laws require that no flammable articles be left in the sauna. We recommend the use of a towel while in the sauna, however. 6. All children under 13 should be supervised in the saunas. Go to Top of Policies Weight Rooms Personal training is offered by HAC staff only. 1. No wet bathing suits or wet clothing are allowed in this exercise area. 2. Proper exercise attire is required as described under general policy. 3. We recommend that you lift with a partner if you will need spotting. 4. No deadlifting, clean, jerk, or snatch lifting. 5. Please replace dumbbells and plates to the racks and holders when you finish. 6. CHILDREN UNDER 13 are not allowed in any weight room. 7. TEENS (13 - 15) may use the selectorized equipment if they have been approved by an HAC personal trainer. No one under age 16 is allowed in the free weight room unless under the direct supervision of a personal trainer. 8. Our exercise staff are available for instruction and guidance. We recommend that all members receive instruction before using weight equipment. One orientation appointment is free to new members. Go to Top of Policies Cardiovascular Rooms 1. Proper exercise attire is required as described under general policy. 2. YOUTH UNDER 13 are not allowed in the cardiovascular room. 3. Members must be at least 13 to use cardiovascular equipment. 4. Please do not use hand-held weights while on c-v equipment. Go to Top of Policies Aerobics Studio 1. DARK-SOLED SHOES are not allowed in the studio. 2. The studio may be used for stretching and floor work during non-class times. Jogging and jump-roping are not permitted. 3. Members must be at least 13 in order to participate in studio classes. 4. Most classes are offered on a walk-in basis. Indoor Cycling 1. Members may sign up at the front desk on the day of the class (in person or by phone.) Guests are not allowed to sign up, but may take the class if there is space. 2. Members must check in with the instructor 10 minutes prior to class. 3. We require 3 hours notice of cancellation. In fairness to other members, you will be penalized if you "no show" or if you fail to give us 3 hours notice. The penalty will be that you cannot register for a class the following week. Go to Top of Policies Tennis Courts 1. There is a $10 per month/per adult member payment required if you want the option to reserve tennis time. Members joining for 6 months or more will pay a maximum reservation fee of $60. There are no additional court fees. 2. Reservations may be made up to two weeks in advance. 3. Adult members may reserve one hour of prime time each week (a week runs Sunday - Saturday) and one hour of non-prime time. Teen memberships are allotted one hour of non-prime time each week. Prime time is between 5:00 and 9:00 p.m. weekdays and weekend hours between 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. When a reservation is made under a member's name, that member must be on the court. The only exception is that an adult member may give court time to his/her own teen or youth, provided that the child is also a member and that an adult always accompanies a youth under age 13. Teens may not give time to parents, nor may spouses give each other their court time. 4. More reservation time is permitted during the June - August months. 5. A member may make reservations for himself, his family and one tennis partner only. 6. There is a 10 min. grace period. Cancellations should be made at least 3 hours in advance. If you late cancel or no show, you forfeit court time for a following week. Repeat offenders will be subject to a double penalty. 7. Unlimited "walk-ins" are allowed. If a court is available 1 hour and 10 minutes before the hour, members may reserve the court as a "walk-in". It will not count as one of their two allotted reservations. However, "no show" and "late cancellation" rules will apply to this "walk-in" reservation. 8. The tennis building will close at 10:00 p.m. weekdays and 9:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Remember that the front door to the club is locked one half hour before the club officially closes. Members must leave promptly at 9:00 or 10:00 accordingly. 9. All guests must check in at the front desk and pay a guest fee. 10. Proper exercise attire is required as described under general policy. NO MARKING SHOES. TENNIS CONTRACT HOURS The club offers a limited number of contract hours. Members have the option to purchase one contract hour per adult member. The person holding the contract hour must keep their membership current through the entire contract season. There are three options. Option 1:contract period, October 15 - April 15 (6 month membership required). Option 2: contract period, September 1 - May 31 (9 month membership required) Option 3: contract period September 1 - August 31 (12 month membership required) All contract hours must be arranged through the office between 8 and 2 (M-F). The member who purchases the contract hour may give the hour to another member. In the event, however, that the court is not occupied within the ten minute grace period, the court will be available to any other member. Members who purchase a contract hour and also want a non-prime time hour, should pay the tennis reservation fee. TENNIS INSTRUCTION Anyone teaching tennis on a Hampshire Athletic Club court must be a current club member. Go to Top of Policies Basketball & Volleyball 1. Our sports court is open for basketball and volleyball. Staff-supervised basketball and volleyball pick-up games, as well as seasonal league games are posted on the court doors. 2. Youth may play on the courts at other open times with adult (over age 18 or 16 if a sibling) supervision. 3. All guests must check in at the front desk and pay a guest fee. 4. Please observe all court rules posted on the door. 5. Proper exercise attire is required as described under general policy. NO MARKING SHOES. There is no charge for daily lockers which should be secured with personal locks. 2. Personal locks which are left on daily lockers will be cut off at the end of each day. 3. A limited number of permanent lockers are available for six, nine and twelve month members. 4. We offer a free towel service. Return used towels to club hamper. 5. Wet bathing suits and towels should not be left in or on lockers. The suit spinner spins suits dry enough to store in your locker. 6. Mothers of young boys and fathers of young girls should use discretion when bringing the children into the locker rooms. Alternatively, the children may dress in the restroom nearest the front desk and use the pool room shower. 7. No food or beverage should be consumed in the locker rooms. 8. For safety reasons, we request that razors not be used in the women's locker room. Go to Top of Policies Lounge 1. The reception area is for your rest and relaxation. Parents must supervise young children in this area as in all areas of the club. Go to Top of Policies Guests 1. Guests must sign in at the front desk and pay guest fee. 2. Guests should not use any equipment without proper instruction. 3. Members over age 18 are not limited to the number of guests over age 16 that they may bring to the club, but are limited to no more than one guest under age 16. 4. Members, ages 13 - 15, are not allowed to bring guests unless accompanied by an adult over age 18. In that case, they are allowed to bring one guest. 5. Members age 16 and 17 are allowed to bring one guest over age 16. 6. Members under age 13 are allowed to bring adult guests over age 18 only. 7. Children, age 12 and younger, are always accompanied by an adult over age 18 in all areas of the club at all times.
